The Biography of Chicago’s Marina City

Marina City Promenade
September 25, 1964

31,000 invitations were mailed for “Marina City Promenade,” a benefit that took place on September 25, 1964. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the public could tour Marina City from the marina to the observation decks, as well as several private apartments.

Special exhibits included a model of a nuclear power station, demonstration of television banking at Marina City Bank, boat hoisting and launching at the marina, and home furnishing displays.

The benefit was for a scholarship fund and for Midway Studios, the fine arts studios of the University of Chicago.

One of the organizers was the wife of John W. Baird, a former chairman of the real estate company Baird & Warner.
